Tripod Adapter Type A incompatibility

Unfortunately for me I just found out today that my tripod adapter to my old gitzo that has a 6 inch disk does not work. I am missing about a 1/4 inch to a clear the pole and align the top 3/8 screw. Please refer to the picture included. This tripod is old and I do not mind drilling a portion of the disk to help clear the path. Do you any other suggestion? (I cannot align the top with the 3/8 screw as the pole is already touching the disk of the tripod.

Hi,

I think you have to move aside on top and at the bottom of pole. So you need a sort connector twice: http://www.tripodhead.com/products/camera-body-main.cfm, http://store.nodalninja.com/quick-re...tor-prototype/ better price but nothing wrong with it. Fix the clamps to center column 3/8" screws, add camera plate and move it aside in the clamp to be fixed to Tripod adapter. May be you have to get a longer camera plate. Can be another branch too, has to be Arca Style.

I would not cut the top disk being afraid it might break etc. because of torque of the poles.

BTW: try to use the Anti Twist Screw of QRC-55 to fix it into the gap of your center column top disk ( black one ) to get Anti Twist function for the QRC55.

You can just simply do something like that on your Gitzo tripod (modifications and pictures made by one of my customers Laurent Thion ;)

Well, no solution except to make a longer version of tripod adapter. Please return the adapter for refund.

not much now, weather temperature but some late snow should arrive tomorrow so perhaps few days next week ;) I already started again BMX, very enjoyable with this sunny weather :p

Just took some pics with my Feisol CT 3372LV. For me it has the biggest top I've seen so far. It is 9cm in diameter and leaves 8mm free room to Pole 2 Lower Unit. Should be interesting to get to know the diameter of the top of softgad's tripod.



I personally would prefer the pole as close as possible to center column because of torque of 6m pole. As shown on my tripod.

So the question might be: Which tripod has a bigger top > 9,5 cm.

well with longer arms for tripod adapter it would increase risk of tilt of whole system and crash on ground I think !

Grinding, and patching it up took me 30 minutes and now I am an happy camper, with rock solid platform for my pole. Finished it with duct tape which blend with the tripod!

Though I found out that I do not recommend lifting the last tube of pole 1 mounted with pole base, as it bend with wind higher than 10miles per hour
