Sunrise over Mono Lake

Up at 4:30 A.M. to make it down to the lake before sunrise. Man, the light sure changes quickly at the moment of sunrise. 30 seconds later and the scene was totally different. Gotta move so very quickly or you miss the pano. It was hard enough just taking a single picture of the sunrise. Taking 4 around plus a hand held Nadir before the light changed too much was very interesting.

Really nice view and colors, you got it Just patch the other photographers to remove them from view ;) Perhaps to get perfect feeling of the place, record ambient sound to add it in panorama !

"Content aware fill" is a photographer's best friend. All other photographers have been asked to step out of the picture and to take their gear with them.

It was way too cold and (did I say) EARLY to be recording what little sound there was. Mostly just the wind blowing. The huge surf coming in did not make much sound as the waves crashed in on the shore.

There is always a little of sound, nice to add it to get more reality feeling in panoramas ;)

Great shot DennisS, worth to get up early in the morning!!

Might be you get a few minutes more if the sun has to raise through some clouds with a gap in them to get the sun lighting the mountains in the back. But this sort of pictures is always a question of a very short moment. As you mentioned, not only for a single shot, but specially for a pano.

Because you replaced the result in your link, there is now way to compare the two result. I have the old version in my mind as far as this can be remembered. Th blue in the sky is different, there is a more colored ring around the sun right now...

Do you have the old version in a link to compare it? If it allows your time I feel it would be nice for us to get to know what you changed in RAW instead of working on the green in the sky etc? Did you work on exposure with -2 EV in Raw as well for example? For me personally I am still working for a natural look with different EV and a preset workflow to reach a natural look with different exposure/HDRI settings and software.

Sadly, I do not have the first version with the blown out sky.

I do not have a "hard and fast" set workflow. Each panorama requires a different amount of under exposure. I try to get the sky exposed correctly, then bring up the shadows during the RAW conversion. Sometimes that means -.3 and other times it means -2.0. That is where the Live View of the NEX-5 absolutly ROCKS. I have yet to be in a situation where a daytime outdoor panorama needs HDR.
