    Hi,

This is my solution: I use a Wimberley P-5 universal camera Plate one hole opened by 7mm bur.

Placed a new M4 Thread in to the original lens holder and used a M4 Imbus screw as Anti Twist screw.

Placed a Mark 19mm from top at the side of the new camera plate to be used as mark for right placement. You can not see the marks of the upper rail clamps anyway.

Cause the lens is mounted to the upper rail instead of the camera body, we get a new LRS.

The new LRS for Nikkor 70-200 mounted with this equipment is 182.

@ Nick: this will be a new challenge for you to design or find a camera plate which will fix to all different lens mount of different long big boy lenses. Even from 70-200 to 300/f2.8 the foot has another design even inside a single branch.

Instead of using camera plate and the upper rail, one should use a lens plate to replace the upper rail.
There are many brands available. One can mark a line on the plate to set NPP. Our MFRs can also be used as a lens plate by adding anti-twist bar on it. Our AS stop plate can be used for this purpose.

I will also work on better design that works for more lens rings. Of course, I will also make dedicated lens plates.
Lens rings from some manufacturers are too stylish. They require special attention for better fit. That means I have to buy all the lens with ring to find the common denominator!
