nn5 to be discontinued? get one while i still can?

Hi, I've always wanted to get one of these nodal ninja's and I haven't been to the site for a while until today and now I see the NN5's are to be discontinued. I own a d90 and I read in the nn3 forum that with a camera that heavy you really want the nn5. Does anyone know what will replace them and when? Or should I just get a NN5 now while I am able to still buy one? I really want to do some city scape panos to hang on a large wall just inside the front door of our home we purchased earlier this year. I was thinking maybe shooting across the water from gasworks park at night (if anyone here lives in/near Seattle)...
My current lenses are the 18-105 kit lens and a 50mm 1.8D.

I was looking at the "NN5 RD16", is it worth it to splurge for rd16?

Hi,

to cut it short. I have tested D90 18-105 kit lens on NN3 and on NN5. The set up is not too heavy for NN3. If you like a tiny small light weight set up and you do not expect to step up to use a 14-24mm on D90 or change to heavier bodies like D3, you will be fine with a NN3, I'd choose for a rotator.

Thinking of having a solid basis for the future, pick a NN5 RD16. It serves for D3 up to 70 -200mm.

The new modular system will offer a set of different lengths of rails to custom fit your own needs connecting via quick release systems and will give a chance to use long focus lenses >200mm et al.

As I told you, NN3 or NN5 fits your equipment and this gear is so good, it might extend the time of your shutter release

As Bill already told you, if you want to shoot now, order now and if you feel to get the modular system, trade -in.

Because NN/Fanotec only deliver new products when they are top, it may take a few months to be delivered, no one knows what might happen setting up a new production line. Microsoft, how many times are we the idiots to stand all things that do not work or have bugs? But NN/Fanotec prodcuts are top right from the beginning. That's why we sometimes have to wait.

hmm, this is misleading. We will have a new model (temporary name NN4) in 2011. It is slightly downgraded NN5 with reduced price. It will only have fixed 15 deg lock in the upper rotator and is targeted at people making panos with wide angle to short telephoto (<100mm eq.) lens.

Longer lens will be better served by new modular Ultimate line.

Well, software can be updated easily. Hardware is costly to do so. That is why we need to do more tests to make sure there will be very little tweaks/updates needed after a product is released, esp for the top of line.

exactly :) NN5 is already no more avalaible, only irregular ones (But don't be afraid, irregular ones have just visual aspects default, nothing that impacts performance, quality and efficiency of product !)

Absolutely not ! As I stated, NN5 is no more avalaible in regular version, only irregular ones, but NN5 R-D8 and NN5 R-D16 are stiil avalaible as regular ! When it's factory irregular it's clearly stated to avoid any confusions ;)

We do have some NN5 series left which are not irregulars. As we put together units from newer components and other pkg combinations these will become available and posted on the website. Items listed as irregulars will have special markings on underside of lower rail noted it as irregular. So if you order an item that is not listed as irregular examine it after receiving it for these factory markings. At the time of this post we still have in stock NN5L Starter pkgs, NN5 w/RD8 and NN5 w/RD16 which are not factory irregulars. We also have NN5x starter packages which are factory irregulars available for purchase. Note SKU #'s that end with "x" denotes factory irregulars.
