Nodal Ninja 5 w/R-D16 Rotator Set-up with Canon 16-35 mm lens

hi there, i am a complete newbie at all of this... just opened up my NN5 and put it on my tripod but have no idea where to position the Mark II along the grid lines of the top axis or the middle axis in relation to the bottom axis or even if those terms are correct... please help... going to attempt a single row pano at first attempt, bracketing shots one stop apart... if anyone has info to provide or can direct me to a pictorial or video tutorial on intitial set-up, i'd greatly appreciate it...

If you are a newbie at this then don't start by taking bracketed shots. You've got enough to learn as it is! Keep it simple with sinlge exposures for now until you are ready to progress.

one more quick ask: in attempting to find the nnp point of my camera and lens, the manual mentions the Entrance Pupil in relation to setting the upper rail. Is this Entrance Pupil simply the edge of my glass...? Because, if so, I had to take the lens hood off to set it there and somehow that doesn't seem right... Pardon my dumbosity...

Seacat - he has already told us. It's a Canon 5D MkII.

Here is what you need to do:

1. Mount the camera with lens on the upper arm and turn the upper arm so the camera is pointing straight down and move the lower arm so the lens is directly over the black/white logo on the rotator centre of rotation.
2. Use live view and move the lower arm until the exact centre of the black/white logo is in the exact centre of the LCD screen. Use the grid overlay to set this. Test by rotating the lower arm around the point of rotation and the logo should stay exact centre.
3. Rotata the upper arm back to 90 degs.
4. With the NN5 on a tripod position the camera so you have a vertical line close to the front of the lens and running right through the centre of the lens again you can use the live view and grid display to help ( like a doorframe) and another vertical line like a wall edge further away again on the centre of the viewfinder. You should just be able to see the further line touching the edge of the nearer line.
5. Rotate the lower arm left right and you should see the further line move closer to or away from the nearer line in te viewfinder.
6. Move the camera on the upper arm forwards bAckwards and keep checking until the further line stays constant in the viewfinder in relation to the nearer line.

Lock down the arms and make a note of the settings.

All this is actually documented both in the manual and well documented through many tutorials on the internet. Try a search for setting the nodal point and you will see what I mean.

No, the entrance pupil is the image of the image of the aperture seen from the front of the lens: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrance_pupil
The no-parallax point is at the center of the entrance pupil.
