  1. R-D16 size and disassembly

    #1

I've ordered an R-D16 from the local reseller and while I wait for it to arrive I'm making plans for how I'm going to integrate it into the rest of my setup.

I'm not going to be attaching a Nodal Ninja to the top of it but some other custom gear and I'm a bit concerned about clearance.

On the store website it says "Small nadir footprint diameter of 62mm", am I correct in thinking that that refers to the diameter of the body of the rotator?

Also in the event that I need to modify it (yes I appreciate what that will do to my warranty) is it possible / easy to disassemble the rotator? and roughly how thick is the outer shell, both on the top and side?

Additionally, what size and thread is the top bolt hole?

Why do you want to disassemble it ? I think it's pretty difficult to open it, and in all matters will kill your warranty !

why would you like to disassemble it? There is M6 socket on top of the rotator, you can use it to adapt to your gear. You can post a photo or your gear and I can offer you advice how to adapt R-D16.

The device I'm attaching has a mostly flat base, but there is a rotating bolt head (not the right term, but close enough for you to get the idea) that sticks out from that surface, the clearance from the mounting hole to the bolt head is 28mm, if the rotator is indeed 62mm in diameter then my bolt head will impinge on it by 3mm.

For the first pass I will just put a big spacer between the two surfaces, lifting the rotator above the bolt head. But I'm wondering if it would be possible to angle grind a small notch in the rotator to provide clearance, hence my questions about the thickness of the outer shell. Also it seems to me that angle grinding the rotator is probably best done with it dismantled so as to not risk damaging the internals.
