im beginning to see the light ! ! 1 more question, aside from the money difference does the Manfrotto 303 SPH Spherical VR Head have any advantages or disadvantages compared to the NN5L, it looks more solid, but thats just from web images, i have no experience of either ?
Advantage of Manfrotto 303 SPH
1. a world famous brand which is probably going to make you a proud owner.
2. More advanced 300N rotator.
3. Better craftsmanship in some of the components, anodized aliminum rails.
Disadvantage
1. more expensive
2. heavier, about twice as heavy as NN5(L) but not more stable
3. bulky or very bulky! You need a big dedicated bag or case for it.
Advantage of NN5(L).
1. cheaper even if you upgrade to the advanced rotator such as the RD12 which is better than 300N (more precise and 2 more settings available).
2. much lighter while maintaining the stability.
3. compact when packed in the dedicated case.
4. Personal, friendly customer support. Probably one of the best in the world.Generous and helpful user base in various forums.
Disadvantage
1. basic default rotator (but there will be advanced rotators for upgrade)
2. painted instead of anodized rails.
3. Not as famous (probably not going to make you a proud owner)

I am not sure I agree with that one.
I use their tripods but I would not dream of using their pano bracket...
It is too big, too heavy, too cumbersome and too expensive.
From the number you see sold used on ebay, others think the same way as me.
Strangely when you see NN's on ebay they are always snapped up at prices often higher than the new price :
NN might be a small company when compared to Bogen/manfrotto, but I suspect it has more Pano heads in actual day to day use.
conversely there are probably more manfrotto ones gathering dust at home, and never used.

thanks for all the pointers, im almost sold, just need to figure out the software next and then im in![]()
I guess the problem of 303 SPH is it inherited too much from the old design/ parts. Each part may be fine used individually. When added up together, it is simply too bulky and heavy.
NN3/ NN3II is very popular due to its features and aggressive pricing. I do hope as many people as possible can enjoy taking panos. It is so much fun. I know it since I made my crude pano bracket a few years ago.

getting ready to jump ! Somehow i navigated to this as a place to buy a NN5L

I have a good tripod, but no quick tilt leveller, im assuming this is something well worth adding, is there any suggested model ?
http://www.red-door.co.uk/pages/prod...es/qpxl-2.html
thanks, T![]()
A quick tilt leveler is not a must. You can adjust the legs of tripod to get good enough leveling. our EZ-Leveler MKII will be released in a few months. It will be perfect for NN5 and supports up to 10kg. It looks like the RD3L rotator without the top rotating part and detent components. The knobs will be in blue color.
It will be cheaper, lighter and more compact than Kaidan's.

Expect many stupid questions in the near future. heres my first one, what software do you need for making a navigable 360 pano ?
