Photokina 2010: few panos

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share with you few shots and panos quickly done during Photokina 2010 in Cologne, ten days ago. In fact shot too fast (as they are too dark :001_unsure:) You can click on each one to see full version on Flickr for pictures, or directly on my blog for panoramas.
Panoramas were shot with my Nikon D3, Nikkor 10.5 installed on Ultimate R1 and whole on top of a P1 pole :001_tt2: Be careful, you should not do that as P1 is not supposed to carry so much weight :whistling:

General view of booth (we shared booth with Giroptic and Kolor). One side of booth was dedicated to software solution (AutoPano and Panotour), other side was dedicated to hardware with Giroptic and Nodal Ninja.

Nodal Ninja is everywhere :clap: here in a typical german restaurant in historic downtown of Cologne, engraved on wood stuff used to serve you beer ;)

Now it's finished, see u perhaps in two years, september 18th to 23rd 2012 ;) and thanks to everyone we have seen on the booth, it was really enjoyable :)

Wow,

I am sure you guys had a good time at the Kina, looking around cologne as well.. Thx for sharing your experience and thanks to be there to present good products. Plus, trying to be one of the first to take pics about the new fairytale lens of Canon. 8-15...

The Series 1 pole will not break by this kind of load. But you may find it rock too much. You can gain more rigidity by reducing the extension of each section. Placing the camera closer to the pole will bring the center of mass closer to the pole and reduce bending of the pole.

Yep less extension means less rock :) A question about rock, when you don't want to use pole at full extension, is it better to extend a little two sections, or extend just one section in full ? what is the most robust ?

Not being an engineer, I need to do some test to get a conclusion.
However, each joint is a weak point. Retract 5-10cm for each section from full extension to get better stability.

Do you carry the pole on plane? Do you need to check it in?

Yep I took pole with me to go to Photokina :) Pole is a little special with security. It's not specifically prohibited but some guys in some airports don't accept them in cabin as they say it can be used to hit someone, which is true :beta1: So I always put it in checked luggages as I don't want to let my pole/tripod at security services !

P-S: Perhaps a new market for Fanotec poles, Ninja guys that use poles for defense :oops:

I just tried to carry the pole onto a plane and I had to check it in both ways... Cost me £30 each leg! So I have a suggestion Nick... They told me it's OK to take a walking stick as hand carry on a plane along with your hand baggage. So why not make a "walking stick handle" to screw on the top of the pole... Voila! Walking stick that turns into a pano pole!
