  • Lens ring for Samyang 8mm 3.5 on a Sony Full Frame

    Hello all,

Well, I am upgrading to a Sony A7Rii and need a lens ring for the Samyang 8mm 3.5, but do not see one available for Nodal Ninja RS-1 or other compatible brackets.

Any ideas what to do? Looking at the NN4 it SEEMS that the vertical arm is very similar to the one on the RS-1. Would I be able to get a camera mount arm part of the NN4 and "convert" my RS-1 into an NN4?

    Tx
    Mark

Following on from Mark's question I am confused as to why so many different lens rings are required for different camera bodies as on http://shop.nodalninja.com/search?q=RS1
Looking at Samyang 8mm f3.5 lenses for different camera bodies on the Internet it appears that the only differences are at the rear of the lens and the mount to fit the lens to the camera such as on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samyang-Fis...mm%2BSony&th=1 but this could be down to Amazon just using the same images so I looked on http://www.wexphotographic.com/
I can see that the lens for Canon fit is different to that for Nikon at the rear, but the part where the lens ring fits looks the same.
I use a Samyang 8mm f3.5 on a D800 and R1 and looking at the Internet the external lens barrel for a Samyang 8mm f3.5 for a Sony A looks identical to the one I have.for my Nikon.
So, I guess my question is, can Mark use one of the existing lens rings (e.g. Nikon fit) for a Sony A7R?
    Thanks, Hugh.

In what lens mount is your Samyang 8mm F3.5? V1 or V2 with removable hood? If you don't have the lens yet, it is better to buy the Samyang 12mm F2.8 fisheye in E-mount.

The lens would be V2 with the detachable hood as it would be purchased new.

            Hi Nick and Hugh,

Yep, the 12mm Samyang arrived today, camera arrives next week... This lens is about double the size of the 7.5mm samyang I had on the Panasonic GH4 MFT - but the lens ring is towards the middle of the lens, so at least the centre of gravity will be ok.

            Thanks for the help guys.
