  • Pole "starter kit" input needed please. . .

I'm trying to pick items for a pole "starter kit with 4 basic requirements:

    Use with RS-1/D800/Nikkor 16mm
switch rs-1 quickly between pole and tripod use
    support Gigapan Epic Pro+ DSLR+lens (< 4KG)
    Maximum expandability for future

Here's what I **think** I need, but would appreciate some expert input:

Poles Series 2 Lower Unit (F7103)
    Pole Series 2 Case (F7171)
    Pole Rotator 60-deg (POLEROTATOR)
Pole Series 2 Advanced Level (F7157)
Pole Series 2 Lower Unit Top Plate (F7156)
Pole Series 1/2 Lower Base Cap (P-BC)
(2)Quick Mount Mini Adapter System (F7154)
One of the tripod adapters (TBD)

    Hi Mosleyh,

You can skip the Lower Base Cap (P-BC), it comes with the pole.

BTW: the 16mm fisheye lens is a good one. The only thing you can do is using a shaved 10.5mm to shoot 4 around.

      Thanks Heinz.

      I wasn't clear on one thing - do I need a pole-foot-plate-f7155? I suspect i would.

You have two ways to use the pole. Either with the Tripod Adapter to use it on the tripod. This will make the pole more stable. Or with the footplate.

So if you like to shoot without a tripod, you have to get it.

Just re-read the tripod adapter QRG - I understand now!

consider buying RS1 with the new RD5 to replace Rotator mini and Pole Rotator 60-deg.
            Similar price, better function.

Nick, he uses a RS-1 already.

                Yes, I have the RS-1and the RD5.

My thought was to leave the pole rotator mounted on the pole and to use a quick mini mount between the RS-1 and RD5, with an extra quick mount plate on top of the pole. This would allow me to keep the RD5 and my ez leveler attached to their ARCA plate, so that I can switch the RS-1 easily from tripod to pole and back in the field with the least amount of assembly/disassembly time.

If there's a flaw in my reasoning or there's a more efficient way to do it, please let me know.
