  • Another wacky idea...

It's been a while since I had a wacky idea but I got one in the middle of the night.

Here it is: the upper arm should be twistable so that you can rotate a camera to put the diagonal of the frame vertical without using a lens ring.

The usual aspect ratios of images are 2:3; 3:4 and 9:16. A little trigonometry would give you the angle of the diagonal. A three stop system would be good enough to get the diagonal of the sensor nearly vertical.

I won't attempt to justify the need for this. Some people will already understand the need -- many won't.

rolling a camera is only advantageous for some fisheye lenses. for other lenses, it is just a wacky idea. :-)

this may be the panohead you want. It is good for studio use.

That's a pretty neat looking pano head. They don't quote price which means it's way too expensive for me. I had something simpler in mind. Would not like to put that beast in my backpack.

But there's a good idea for a future NN in that head.

I was thinking that a simple wedge shaped T-Adapter or camera plate would be sufficient for putting the diagonal on the vertical. Could be made from dense plastic even. On reflection, rotating the top arm would be too complicated.

Yes, I found that -- I think I blacked out when I saw the price.
