I set up a very cool little box, with a screwdriver poking out the top of the box, with a slit cut into a piece of cardboard that was placed behind the screwdriver. Using this setup I was very easily able to find the nodal points of my shorter lenses.

With my Canon 70-200, however, I found it next to impossible to figure it out at the long (135-200) end. Even looking through the viewfinder, as you move your head slightly (without moving the camera) you can see some parallax. I ended up just sort of "guessing" a value.

Any pointers for this lens? I have it mounted up using the tripod collar.

Nodal Ninja is proud to announce our partnership with the San Diego Air & Space Museum and Sony Electronics in creating an interactive immersive Virtual Tour of the International Space Station which will be used by museums and educational institutions world wide.
The goal by San Diego Air & Space Museum is to educate and increase awareness of the ISS for years to come and to entice young adults to consider a career in science or engineering. This Virtual Tour will allow the user with a computer or tablet to take a 360-degree tour of the space station from the comforts of planet earth. We've provided a custom made VR head, smaller and lighter than the R10, for use with a specially modified Sony provided NEX camera to take images on the International Space Station. And once final date by NASA is given a future launch date will be announced.

"One small step for Nodal Ninja - one giant leap for VR photography". This project has been two years in the making and will ultimately bring great needed exposure to our industry. Hardware and software developers will also gain benefit from this monumental project.

As it is my first post, I would like first to greet the community ! I've been reading since few days different threads and I'm in the mood to create a new one !

So from scratch :
I've been doing mainly spherical panoramas with a 550D + a canon 10-22mm 3.5 and lately with a samyang fisheye 8mm 3.5, the new ones without the hood. My panohead, well, doesn't really worth to talk about it as it is a chinese piece of junk bought on Ebay for a very reasonable price ! In the mean time, that's why I'm here ; because I seriously want to upgrade my gear as I do more and more panos.

So, I need some advices because there's few things I'm not sure to catch. As I was reading some threads, I've seen some inputs saying that it is more recommanded to use a RS1 (or now RS2) in order to make spherical panoramas, the R1 being not that great to shoot Zénith with a single row.

So my question is : with that tilt option that the R1 offers, is that possible to create a spherical panorama with the following "settings" ?
-A full frame body (canon markiii)
-A samyang 8mm
-The R1 head
-A first row of let's say 3 shots every 120° @ -7.5
-Then a second "row" tilting the head @ +12.5 and making let's say 2 shots every 180°

Does tilting @ +12.5 will be enough to get the zenith. I would say yes as using a fisheye on full frame is supposed to give me a 180° FOV right ?
I would be very glad if anyone that have a similar gear/way of shooting could advise me.

Other thing I'm don't really understand. In the R1 spec of Nodal Ninja website it is said :
-8 precise on-the-fly tilting options (-15, -10, -7.5, -2.5, 0, +5, +7.5, +12.5 deg)
and
-Ability to roll the camera/lens in any position including the popular 0, 60 and 90 degree positions.

I'm not sure to understand the last one vs the first one. What exactly they mean by "roll" the camera ?

I've tried to find some videos in use of the head to have a better idea but to be honnest, I haven't found one ! Anyone here could share some usefull ones ?

Thanks for reading ! and hope I've been enough clear !
Cheers to all

Hi,

im using a R10 for my 5DII with EF 8-15, 7,5° tilted up. In this NN-document (http://www.nodalninja.com/Manuals/QR...non-8-15mm.pdf) there is referenced a rail-stop-plate marked with "103" on it suitable for R10 7.5° with EF 8-15.

So i ordered this but what i received instead is what i attached below. A Plate without any markings but with some tiny bricks, marked by their widths. No manual included :-(

Did i get the wrong part? Anybody knows what this is good for or has a manual how to configure it?

I’d like to share a NN head with a couple of other photographers. They have full size DSLRs and I have a mirrorless, but may upgrade soon. Is there any reason one of the bigger NNs, like the 4 or M series, can’t be used with my current camera?

Can I use an Acra Swiss style QR plate on the bottom of the rotator? My tripod has a RRS lever release clamp, and I’d like the flexibility of that mounting.

This is probably the dumbest question this forum has seen in a while, but how does one do it? Should I remove the O-rings or should I leave them there and use the silver screws with the smallest thread diameter? If yes, how does one tighten the whole assembly, if not, how does one prevent the rotation of the R1/R10 adapter?

Also, is it possible to mount an arca-swiss clamp directly on top of the R1/R10 adapter?
Thanks,
