I've been experimenting with my RS-1/D800e/Nikkor 16mm. I tried rotating the lens 45 degrees in the lens ring so that the diagonal dimension of the frame is vertical. At +10 degrees vertical tilt, It closes the zenith and leaves a star shaped nadir hole that can be filled with one nadir shot. My thought is that this pattern would be effective for pole shooting, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm wondering if anyone is shooting this way or has tried it, and can comment on the advantages and disadvantages.
