A panoramic head has been on my want list for a while. Now I am going to be doing some commercial photography and I have to get one. I will mostly be shooting interior, but some exterior. My main body is a Nikon D3. I have a fisheye, and a 17-35mm that I will be using. I am debating if the 3 is enough. and should I go with one of the RDs. if so do I really need the RD16. And last question, one of the EZ-levelers? Thanks for any help. Mike

Hi Mike,

For D3, you need either NN4 or 5. They will support your lens. The default or the RD8/16 rotators will just work fine. An EZ-Leveler will be a good accessory too.

Hi Mictay, and welcome to the forum.

D3 is too heavy for NN3. As Nick told you, you should either go for NN4 or NN5. To be fully equipped for D3 and the future, I should go for a NN5. Cause it has slightly longer rails and another rotator. This might fit better for D3. It will offer you full range of lenses up to 70-200. I own a D3 with several lenses, NN3, 4, 5, Nadir Adapter and Ez-Leveller II. So I dare to say I know what I am talking about. If you think of using the bigger boys > 200mm, you should think of new M1-xx series.

But with your equipment right now, I should go for NN5 RD16, add a Nadir Adapter and for easy leveling an Ez-Leveller II. If you think of changing to M1-xx series in the future because of longer lenses, you can keep the RD16 rotator, the Ez-Leveller II and get an M1 without rotator. This is compatible. You then should add the M1 Nadir Adapter, which will be available later on.

Kind Regards and feel free to ask,
Heinz
