Hi
I need a pano head quite urgently and can't wait for the new M series and was wondering if this unit will hold my Canon 5d Mkii with 17-40mm attached, i can always remove my battery grip?

not a good choice for 17-40mm. T-adapter is needed. NN5/5L will be much more stable, giving you sharper image at low light situations.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
Won't fit to your equipment. You should go for a NN5 RD16 and later on you can update to M1-x Series without Rotator. You fix the RD16 to it and on you go. But I suppose you even will stay with the NN5.
Ask your local dealer what he might have in stock. http://www.cranedistributors.co.za/products/612.html. When do you need it?

Heinz
