I need to do some panoramas and VTs and I've gotten a lot of conflicting info about lenses and

I was looking at the Tokina 11-71mm but then read something about lens hood problems on the 5D. Is that a 5D specific problem or a general problem?

Which Nodal Ninja would be most suitable?

not sure about your lens. NN5L is on sale. It will work much better for your gear and many more lens/camera options. You should consider it for your gear.

Looking from your other post, I guess you mean Tokina 10-17mm fisheye instead.
The 10-17mm is designed for DSLR with cropped sensor. when mounted on FF camera like the 5D, it will cause dark corners. Luckily these dark corners can be removed by shaving the lens hood. And it opens up a possibility of ultra-wide angle imaging. The angle of view is more than 180 deg. So on FF camera, you can get a 360x180 pano with 3 shots only.
NN3 will work for this lens with limitation on zenith shot. You are recommended to upgrade to the R-D8 or R-D16 rotator to increase the tiltg up angle.
Again NN5L package may be a better candidate for you.
